The skin is the outermost part of the body that plays an important role as a defense mechanism. The skin functions as a protector of the body, shielding the internal parts such as bones, organs, muscles, joints, nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. The skin also acts as the body's natural defense against exposure to radiation, toxic substances, and various viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites that cause infections. Therefore, we should take care of a baby's skin, which is still soft and sensitive, to keep it healthy.
Healthy skin can support the growth and development of toddlers. This is because healthy skin helps the body absorb nutrients from food. It should also be noted that the skin is the site for vitamin D synthesis, which is important for calcium absorption and healthy bone growth. Healthy skin also contributes to a child's psychological health. Babies who feel comfortable in their skin will be happier and more content, which also supports their emotional and social development. Therefore, it is important to provide proper skin care from infancy.
How to Keep Baby's Skin Healthy
According to Dr. Ario Baskoro, MSc(IHM), from the Directorate of Nutrition and Maternal and Child Health at the Ministry of Health, during the MAKUKU event at the Posyandu related to the health education program with the theme "The Softness of MAKUKU, Comforts My Child," maintaining skin health in toddlers is the first step in optimizing a child's growth and development. With proper care, the little one can be protected from all skin diseases.
“Menjaga Kesehatan Kulit Balita merupakan langkah awal dalam optimalisasi tumbuh kembang anak karena mereka akan terhindar dari penyakit kulit yang dapat menghalangi gerakan, mengurangi mood dalam pemberian makan, dapat mengganggu proses stimulasi dini perkembangan, serta dapat mengganggu waktu tidurnya” jelasnya dalam acara di Posyandu Puskesmas Pisangan Jakarta Timur pada 23 Oktober 2023.
In order to support the growth and development of toddlers, good skincare and awareness about skin protection are very important. Here are ways to keep toddler skin healthy according to Dr. Ario from the Ministry of Health:
- Using quality and clinically tested baby skincare products
- Reducing the use of hot water when showering
- Drying a baby's body correctly
- Pay attention to the cleanliness of the fabric or clothes used
- Routine of changing baby diapers
- Use baby moisturizer cream before putting on a diaper, on the buttocks area.
- Ensure the baby is adequately hydrated. Provide breast milk or formula according to the little one's fluid needs.
- Pay attention to the room temperature. Ensure the baby is in an optimal temperature, not too hot or cold, as long as the baby feels comfortable.
- Wash your hands properly with soap before touching the skin of infants and toddlers to prevent infections transmitted through hands.
MAKUKU Dry Care is present in 3 Posyandu in Jabodetabek
MAKUKU collaborates with local health centers for a reason. MAKUKU aims to continuously provide mothers with knowledge about their babies' health and happiness, especially regarding skin health. Not all parents may fully understand the importance of skin health, particularly when caring for their children. However, understanding skin health is an essential part of comprehensive child care.
On this occasion, MAKUKU also introduced its latest product, MAKUKU Dry Care, more closely to the posyandu mothers. MAKUKU Dry Care will be sold in regular packaging and sachet packaging at nearby stalls. This way, posyandu mothers who want to use MAKUKU Dry Care can easily obtain it. MAKUKU Dry Care is a quality family diaper choice that is affordable.
MAKUKU Dry Care has advantages including soft diapers, a dry diaper surface throughout the day and night due to its high absorbency, three air circulation features, and an elastic waistband design that follows the baby's body shape. MAKUKU Dry Care is available in two types: adhesive diapers (NB-S) and pants diapers (M, L, XL, XXL).
In addition to education on how to care for skin health, MAKUKU also held an educational session on baby massage with love, guided by Midwife Dewi Aprilia. The mothers at the health post during the event appeared very enthusiastic, from the Q&A session to performing the MAKUKU dance with the latest jingle.
After successfully conducting education at Posyandung Puskesmas Pisangan East Jakarta, MAKUKU, together with the Ministry of Health and other professionals, will hold skin health education at Posyandu Cimanggis, Depok on October 31, 2023, and Posyandu Botanica, Bekasi on November 9, 2023. See you at the next posyandu, moms and dads!
