Makuku Family held a health webinar on Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant and lactating women to make the government's vaccination program a success. It should be noted that the government targets vaccination to reach all Indonesians by January 2022.

The public, especially pregnant and lactating mothers, are expected to participate after receiving education from doctors who are competent in their fields and removing stigma or hoaxes about vaccines.

In addition to the success of the vaccination program, this webinar aims to provide education and health information in accordance with Makuku's vision as Your Child Care Consultant for Moms.

"Makuku hopes to provide education and information to mothers of children so that in the future the child's development will be better. We hope that in the future Indonesian children can grow up healthier," said Makuku Family CEO Jason Lee in a webinar themed on Recommendations for the Right Type of Vaccine for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Mothers in collaboration with St. Carolus, Tuesday 31 August 2021.

Jason added, education and information in parenting are very important in the growth of children. He told how his son had problems with his milk bottle. After being taken to the hospital, it was discovered that her son had a problem with his teeth instead of his milk bottle.

According to him, in terms of growth from childhood to adulthood there must be attention, and from the side of parents, maybe this is still lacking. "So there are some things that can be avoided if we can know about them in advance. That's why Makuku Family collaborates with consultants and children's hospitals to provide health information to moms and dads in Indonesia," said Jason.

Then, can pregnant and breastfeeding women get the Covid-19 vaccination?

Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology RS. St. Carolus dr. Ivanna Theresa S, SpOG said that the vaccine dose may be given to pregnant and lactating women. According to him, people no longer need to believe in hoaxes about the bad effects of vaccines because they are completely untrue.

"So far there have been no negative effects on babies in the womb. The vaccines given are live vaccines, so they won't infect them," said dr. Ivan in the webinar.

dr. Ivanna added that pregnant and lactating women do not need to choose the type of vaccine because all of them are safe to use.

"All these vaccines are allowed, Sinovac Pfitzer, Moderna are the most recommended by pregnant women," added dr. Ivanna.

On the same occasion, a specialist in Pediatrics, RS. St. Carolus dr. Martina Siboe, SpA stated that vaccination also has health benefits for mothers who are breastfeeding. For this reason, he hopes pregnant and lactating mothers will participate in this vaccination program.

Some notes that must be considered for breastfeeding mothers who want to be vaccinated include having a temperature below 37.5 degrees, not having fever or cough for the last 7 days, blood pressure below 180/110 and meeting the requirements according to medical history screening.

"Why are breastfeeding mothers vaccinated? The vaccine is safe for the mother, can protect the mother and can transfer antibodies," said dr. Martina.

In this webinar, Makuku Family also invited journalists to convey information about vaccinations for pregnant & lactating mothers to the public. This webinar activity is the result of collaboration between the Makuku Family and RS. St. Carolus.
