Every 15 February is celebrated as World Child Cancer Day. In 2022, the theme for World Children's Cancer Day is “Better Survival” and can be achieved with #throughyourhand.
World Children's Cancer Day is celebrated to raise awareness about cancer among children. As well as providing moral support for adolescents and children who are battling cancer, have recovered from cancer and families of cancer survivors.
According to data from a 2017 study in the Indian Journal of Medical and Pediatric Oncology, nearly 50,000 children aged 0-19 succumb to this deadly disease. In fact, more than 280,000 million children and adolescents under the age of 20 are diagnosed with cancer every year.
In high-income countries, more than 80% of children with cancer are declared cured. However, in low- and middle-income countries, the cure rate for children with cancer is only about 20%. This makes cancer the 9th most common cause of death in children.
Until now, it is not known with certainty the factors that increase the risk of cancer and its causes in children. However, it is important for parents and families to recognize the symptoms or signs of cancer in children. Cancer in adults with children has differences. Most cancers that occur in adults are caused by an unhealthy lifestyle.
Whereas in children, cancer tends to be caused by genetic factors that are inherited from parents. That's why, the commemoration of World Children's Cancer Day is always accompanied by providing education for parents. The types of cancer that often attack children include leukemia, retinoblastoma, brain cancer, neuroblastoma, and lymphoma.
